The Bestest Children of the World

Controversial Nordic Children's Literature and the Representation of the Child in the Contemporary Literature

The Nordic children’s and youth literature has left the nest: no more cuddly coziness, no more programmed happiness. Classical education standards are no longer available, the dogma of right and wrong obsolete. The topics of the newer works of this genre stem from unadorned reality. And the representation of children in recent literature? Antiheroes with depth.

At the seminar “The Bestest Children of the World” leading Nordic authors present their works. Prestigious literary scholars from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden give a status report from their countries. The seminar is open to all students and professors of the University of Vienna and other universities, as well as to the interested, general public. Registration is required.
